Evaluation of the 95 Th Percentile Hiii Large Male Dummy

چکیده
This study summarizes results from a preliminary evaluation of the Hybrid III Large Male Dummy. The paper reviews the dimensions, certification test responses, durability, and repeatability and reproducibility of two Hybrid III 95 Percentile Large Male dummies, each produced by a different manufacturer. Response data from multiple repeats of the proposed Calibration and Inspection Test Procedure sections from the SAE Draft of the “User’s Manual for the HIII 95 Large Male Test Dummy” (SAE, 2003) are used as the basis for the analysis. An overview of the test methodologies employed is presented as well as an assessment of the compliance with the proposed certification specifications, durability at high energy test levels and repeatability and reproducibility. Besides employing the typical repeatability measures of traditionally-calculated coefficients of variation, a new technique is proposed and discussed involving a time-variant method of calculating coefficients of variation.

Development of Advanced HIII Abaqus dummies
Abstract: Hybrid III dummies are among the most frequently used dummies in both industry and academia for vehicle crash safety. Abaqus is one of most widely applied finite element codes in the world. To meet the needs of crash safety analysis and to exploit the potential of the Abaqus/Explicit code, a family of HIII dummies, including HII 50th male, 5th female and 95th male dummies, were develo...
متن کاملRhule 1 the Process of Evalution and Documentation of Crash Test Dummies for Part 572 of the Code of Federal Regulations
A candidate anthropometric test device (ATD), or crash test dummy, must undergo a rigorous evaluation and documentation process before it can be considered for incorporation into Part 572 of the Code of Federal Regulations. This process has been developed over many years and includes (1) thorough dummy and drawing inspection, (2) establishment of dummy certification criteria, (3) evaluation of ...
متن کاملRear Seat Occupant Protection in Frontal Crashes and Its Feasibility
As part of NHTSAs Rear Seat Occupant Protection Research Program, the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and State Data System (SDS) for Florida, Pennsylvania and Maryland were utilized to estimate relative fatality rates and injury risk ratios between the front and rear seat passengers. In addition, a parametric study of rear-seat restraint parameters was performed to assess chest defl...
متن کاملUntaroiu 1 PEDESTRIAN KINEMATICS INVESTIGATION WITH FINITE ELEMENT DUMMY MODELS BASED ON ANTHROPOMETRY SCALING METHOD
Pedestrian-vehicle impact experiments using cadavers have shown that factors such as vehicle shape and pedestrian anthropometry can influence pedestrian kinematics and injury mechanisms. While a parametric study examining these factors could elucidate the complex relationships that govern pedestrian kinematics, it would be impractical with cadaver tests due to the relative expense involved in p...
متن کاملBostrom 1 A SLED TEST METHOD FOR SMALL OVERLAP CRASHES AND FATAL HEAD INJURIES
A large portion of fatal crashes are characterized by passenger cars being hit at the front but without engaging the drive train or longitudinal structural beams. The objective of this paper was to describe a cost-effective sled test method developed to address the issue of small overlap crashes and fatal head injuries. A real-life small overlap crash and literature review revealed that, in mos...
